Aguadilla is known as the "Garden of the Atlantic." The name comes from the colorful sponges and marine life prevalent in this area. It is also internationally known for its world-class surfing beaches. Las Cascadas Water Park is a water park, in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. The park is the largest water park in the Caribbean region. The park is owned and administered by the City of Aguadilla. There are currently two projects ongoing construction at the park. The first is a new water slide and ride, and the second being a new 70 room hotel adjacent to the park, which is also a project of the Authority of Municipal Enterprises. The mayor announce that there are also plans to build a new Surfing Pool. Aguadilla Ice Skating Arena, A.I.S.A., is a multi-use facility, in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. The arena is the only ice skating facility in the Caribbean region. The facility is owned and administered by the City of Aguadilla. A.I.S.A. opened its doors in 2005 as the only facility of its kind in the Caribbean. Although Puerto Rico hosts several ice skating events during the Christmas season, the AISA is the only ice skating facility open year-round. Located in Aguadilla, the Punta Borinquen Lighthouse was built in 1889, has been designated a historic site worthy of preservation by the National Register of Historic Places. The Christopher Columbus Park is located on a small forest at the southernmost beach of Aguadilla. The area has a blue water beach, playground, Banyan tree house, recreational areas, monuments and food kiosks. The park harbors a romantic boardwalk along the beach. |
